My name is Jenna Bouma, and I am a self taught Canadian tattooer originally from Edmonton, Alberta. I have lived in New York for the last 10 years, and currently work at Good Luck NYC in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I specialize in non-electric tattooing, otherwise commonly known as hand poked or hand pushed tattooing.

I have been exclusively practicing this method since I started in 2008, and have had the pleasure of tattooing internationally both full time and part time in several countries including South Africa, Hong Kong, Japan, Denmark, New Zealand, Mexico, Bali, and many more.

I derive inspiration from western traditional tattooing, Japanese ukiyo-e / shunga, romanticism, and vintage folk art.

My goal and intention is to adorn all bodies with tattoos that bring them physically closer to their sense of self, while also offering a more primitive/simplified tattoo experience that grants me the privilege and opportunity to make unique works on special people. All bodies and all people are always welcome.

  • I tattoo non electrically via the hand poked method, similar to Japanese tebori/shamisenbor. I do not use a machine.

    My focus is black/grey, but am open to using a limited color palette of silver, vermillion, green and gold.

  • I currently book 4 months out. In July I’ll reopen my books for August/September/October, including appointments for guest spots and international conventions.

  • This all depends on final placement, size and detail.

    A loose guide – Palm sized pieces usually take between 1-2 hours, hand sized 2-4 hours, and 4 hours and up for pieces 8” and up. Back pieces vary from 16- 40+ hours depending on back size, detail and coverage.

  • At this point in time I will only be taking on large scale custom work over 8” in size. Anything smaller will be flash only, thank you!

  • For custom large scale projects I will likely share a mock up of the piece in advance.

  • Cash only, please and thank you.

  • My minimum is $300.

    For flash: I price by the piece.

    For Large scale/ongoing work:

    Half a day (3 hours) is $700

    Full day rate (6 hours) is $1400

    All prices are in USD. Final cost is determined by placement, size and detail, and will be discussed prior to your session.

  • Unfortunately it is your responsibility to ensure you arrive on time to your appointment. If you are running more than 15 minutes late without informing me, you will forfeit your deposit and potentially your appointment time as well. Please call the shop or email ASAP if you are running behind.

    To be on the safer side, please do not book an appointment with the intention of catching a flight or rushing off to important engagements right afterwards. I cannot guarantee we will finish on time, and there’s nothing more stressful than rushing a tattoo. Thank you for your understanding!
